Kristina Cary, Managing Editor

Kristina Cary is a Managing Editor of The Broadview. As a fourth-year staff member, Cary has attended multiple national journalism conventions and has received an award from the Journalism Education Association of Northern California for her editorial writing. Outside of journalism, Cary is a Varsity badminton player and an active member of multiple clubs. Cary has also interned for the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office for two years in its Domestic Violence Unit.

The temporary installation Soma at Pier 14 on Mission Street. Its lights turn on daily 10 minutes after sunset and stay lit until 2 a.m. The piece, created by Flaming Lotus Girls in 2009, represents the cell body of a neuron with branching dendrites, extensions of a nerve cell.

The Merry Marketplace was set up on Dec. 5 for members of the Sacred Heart community to take part in a Christmas boutique. Boots, food truck and games were part of the event. The items for sale ranged from jewelry to books to toys for children.

Senior Stella Smith Werner experiments with the ideas of space and depth in a painting prepared for her AP Drawing and Painting class. Smith Werner is one of the few seniors who plans on applying to art colleges, and she is preparing an application portfolio which includes 15 to 20 pieces such as paintings, drawings and photographs. Smith Werner plans to have her portfolio reviewed by a representative of the Pratt Institute on Sunday.

Sophomore history teacher Michael Stafford examines sophomore Bella Kearneys evidence in favor of the Europeans in the Native American versus European trial in the new sophomore Hislish class. The trial consisted of two parties with the Native American side as the prosecutors and the Europeans as the defense. Hislish is a double-period English and history class focused on oppression. The class is based off classwork and presentations with no homework or tests.
