This is the second season ever of the Convent junior varsity field hockey team. Moreover, this is both JV’s and varsity’s second time playing Marin Academy this season. Varsity and JV both played really well and showcased their own progress as a team throughout their games.
Today, varsity was able to hold a score of 0-0 against them; however, JV was unable to keep up and lost 3-1. When asked about how the game went, senior Kokobae Foust said, “I think we possessed the ball well and had great crosses, but we didn’t end up finishing,”
Varsity has also improved dramatically by making the playoffs last year. This year they are in fifth place, only behind Tamalpais, Marin Catholic, Redwood and University High School. Varsity has the drive and intensity needed to beat these teams in order to make the playoffs this season.
“I think we have increased our intensity as a team throughout last season and this one,” sophomore Zoe Fernandez said, “cant wait to see what we can accomplish the rest of the season”
Although JV lost, they definitely showed progress from last year’s season. Last season Convent’s JV team had a total of three goals in all of their games. However, this year they have tripled that amount.
When prompted about how JV has progressed and what they need to work on, coach Kristan Manson said: “We have more aggression and possession of the ball on the field, as well as tactical knowledge and skills, but we need to work on finishing.”
It appears that both field hockey teams are good at working together and getting the ball up to the goal, but need to work on their shots.
“Both teams have come a long way from last season and intend to progress even more,” Foust says, giving a reminder of Thursday’s game where both teams have a good opportunity to accomplish new goals. “I’m looking forward to our game against Berkeley!”
