On Wednesday, Sept. 16th, the Convent varsity field hockey team won against the Lick Wilmerding team in the Convent homecoming field hockey game. They played at City College, and the final score was 1-0, Convent. The game-winning goal was made by junior Jessica Long.

As for the rest of the season, the Convent field hockey team has had 4 wins and 11 losses. As a result, this game makes an important impact on their record.

“We are officially halfway through the season,” assistant coach Grace Baylis said. “I know this team can keep their momentum going and make it to playoffs.”

This game was also significant because it was Convent’s first field hockey victory over Lick in school history. By helping to win the game, Jessica Long made an impression on the Convent sports records. However, each team member contributed to the effort, ultimately getting victory through working together.

“I’m so happy about the outcome of today’s game,” said senior Kokobe Foust. “We’ve been working hard at practice and it’s so great to see it paying off.”

As the school kicks off Homecoming in general, everyone is getting excited, and this game contributes to the electrified energy of the community. Even before the game, students had been supporting this team and encouraging them to play their best.

“I’m so excited for our homecoming game today,” sophomore Ava Long said. “I know we’re going to play amazingly against Lick!”

Some of the other homecoming games for Convent leading up to this one were the golf game, the cross country meet and the tennis game. Coming up next is the homecoming volleyball game on Sept. 18.

“I am very proud of this Convent team,” Baylis said. “They have put in the hard work to make this win happen.”
