Over the weekend, the Varsity volleyball team learned that they will be competing in Division II for the North Coast Section. This is a huge milestone in the program’s history!
The North Coast Section organizes high school athletic competition into divisions, creating opportunities for schools to compete against other programs at their respective levels. Earning a Division II placement gives the varsity team the opportunity to test its skills against new opponents all around Northern California.
The team has put in a lot of work to get ready for this league. “I think that all our effort and courage has gotten us this far, junior Guilia Putt says. “We have really prepared for this.”
Although the team is excited about the placement, the players know there is still room to improve. Consistency will be especially important as they prepare to compete against Division II teams.
“I think we realistically belong in D2,”assistant coach Berto Chui said. “We need to work on consistency, but we can definitely compete with them.”
For the players, the placement is also an opportunity to see how far their hard work can take them. While competing in a higher division brings new challenges, it also gives the team a chance to show their skills.
“I feel very excited for this opportunity,”freshman Mila Grunberg said. “I am so excited to cheer, support and give my best to this team!”
With NCS approaching, the team will continue preparing for the competition ahead. After reaching a division the program has not been placed in for a decade, varsity volleyball has plenty to look forward to as they take on this new challenge.
