Halloween is here. From costumes to candy to staying up late, the spooky season has officially begun. This year, Halloween falls on a Saturday. Not only can you stay up later, but it also allows for more time to celebrate. The “Halloweekend” comes with more costumes—with most students doing different ones on Friday and Saturday.
Costumes on Friday are more casual, using the energy for dressing up reserved for Saturday. Freshman Collins Gray thinks that “Friday’s Halloween costumes will be more individual and casual because it’s for school and I think I am more excited for Saturday because the costumes will be group costumes that are more fun,”
Most students are doing something casual on Friday, walking around the block, meeting up with friends and watching scary movies. Because it’s a school day, students have the option to come to school in their costumes or dress more casually until the real fun begins.
“I’m definitely more excited for Saturday,” said senior Adeline Sanford, “more of my friends are going to be doing stuff, more people will be out and about, and my costume will be better. Plus the overall vibes of the night will be more fun.”
Because of the COVID lockdown, this Halloween marks the first one to fall on a weekend since isolating. It has come a long way from the COVID lockdown and this year students will be able to fully enjoy it.
“I remember during 2020, Ms. Marpe and I dressed up as flapper girls and decorated our face masks,” said history teacher Ms. Sell. During the lockdown, no one could truly celebrate the “Halloweekend” due to masks, face shields, and self-distancing. While people tried to make efforts and still dress up, the Halloween spirit had left.
This Halloween is like no other—with more costumes, more nights, and more fun. This year, Halloween marks getting over the pandemic and continuing to live out a normal life.
“I think Saturday will be more fun because there will be more Halloween spirit and people will be out and about,” Gray said “I am excited to stretch out the Halloween spirit for a whole weekend.”
