On September 25, all of Convent and Stuart Hall will be gathering at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption to celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit together. It will begin with all of the seniors processing in, followed by singing with the Liturgical and Celebratory Music class, and end with a homily from the priest and the eucharist.
The Liturgical and Celebratory Music class, as well as past students of the vocal class, will be singing some mass settings to lead the school in worship. This is an invitation to be linked in the community through the language of music.
“It’s a good way for the [liturgical] class to share what they’ve been practicing and to spread joy and liturgy,” sophomore Qiara Dela Cruz said, “The class is able to share their talents and bring spirit to the community and just make themselves better,”
The senior class also has an especially significant role in this ceremony, as it is their first mass of their final year at this school. They walk in with reverence at the very beginning, showing that they are stepping into their senior year.
“It’s special and kind of exciting that we get to “process” in for the first time,” senior Trinity Joa says, “like a precursor to when we do so at the baccalaureate mass.”
On the other side of the age spectrum, the young students from Convent Elementary School and Stuart Hall for Boys will also be attending the mass. This is a special time for high schoolers to connect with elementary and middle school students.
“It’s going to be an important time because it’s the first essential gathering of most of the school,” performing arts head Phillip Harris said, “This is the only time outside of Noels, actually, where we get this amount of people in one space.”
Excitement is high, and spirits are hopeful as the schools anticipates this gathering together. Students are preparing their uniforms to show up as one united school.
“Mass of the Holy Spirit is a thing that we do every year,” Dela Cruz said, “It’s a good way to bring together the community.”
