As this summer approaches, millions of travelers are preparing for vacations across the globe. From tropical beaches to bustling cities, a few destinations outshine their competitors and travellers are rushing to experience these stand out locations. This year’s favorite destinations reveal where everyone wants to spend their summer.
According to UN Tourism, international travel continues to grow after past years of restrictions. As tourism continues to increase, certain destinations are surging with tourists during the summer. This year travelers are looking for sunny beaches, exciting cities, and exotic nature.
“More people are travelling this year because people are looking for new places and experiences,” sophomore Jessica Long said. “This summer is going to be a big year for travel, especially because people see destinations online that they want to visit,”
According to statistics from Skyscanner, one of the most sought after destinations for this summer is located in Zadar, Croatia. Known for its Roman ruins and Venetian heritage, Zadar is rated off the charts for summer destinations and offers a less crowded, stunning, and affordable alternative to Dubrovnik, Croatia’s main tourist hub. One of Zadar’s main attractions, the Sea Organ, is known as an “architectural marvel”, and plays soothing music fully created by the movements of the Adriatic waves.
“Croatia is one of the most underlooked and underrated summer destinations,” religion faculty Clint Hackenberg said. “It is incredibly beautiful and picturesque, and offers stunning nature alongside the beaches, giving travellers easy access to both.”
Another destination expecting many travellers this summer, lays in a lush volcanic island and offers stunning landscapes and exciting outdoor activities. According to Skyscanner, Madeira, Portugal has become a must visit on many travelers itineraries for this sumer. Because of Madeira’s volcanic cliffs, volcanic sea pools can be found in many parts of the Island and visitors are able to swim in the completely natural, crystal clear rock pools. Known for its ideal climate and dramatic volcanic landscape, Madeira is the perfect destination for hikers, wildlife lovers, and relaxation seekers.
“Madeira is one of those destinations that feels like a hidden wonder,” senior Julia McKinnon said. “The weather is perfect, the nature is beautiful, and it’s not as busy as other summer destinations.”
The summer of 2026 is predicted to be one of the busiest travel seasons yet and has many tourists excited to visit new places and environments. Zadar, Croatia and Madeira, Portugal, are just some of the hottest destinations of this summer, offering everything from incredible scenery to exciting experiences, these destinations will definitely amaze travelers.
“I know I am super excited for the summer of 2026,” Long said. “There are so many exotic and incredible destinations out there that are just waiting to be traveled to.”
