Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, is a prominent member of the British royal family. She gained widespread attention for her marriage to Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and is celebrated for her charitable endeavors and advocacy for mental health awareness.

On Friday, Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton released a video update concerning her current health. This message was a response to the public’s speculation about her health and whereabouts since her hospitalization in January.

Middleton is the current Duchess of Cambridge and is married to the current Duke of Cambridge, Prince William. She has three children, Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8), and Prince Louis (5). This family of five has undergone immense sorrow, and there is a lot of sympathy for this family according to freshman Isabel Schmidt.

“This sudden news deeply saddened me,” said Schmidt. “I hope she and her family are doing alright and I hope they can get through it all together,”

In a previous interview with the royal family, she mentioned that she had undergone abdominal surgery while she was in London, and it was believed to be non-cancerous according to RoyalUK. It was only after the surgery that cancer was found and she was advised to undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy.

“Seeing Kate directly address the camera in this video and share such a personal aspect of her life calls for so much respect,” said sophomore Lila Pollak. “In the video, she said that these last couple months have been a tough thing to deal with as a family, but I feel like the video gave off the idea that everyone is helping each other,”

Kate Middleton is not the first person in the Royal family to be diagnosed with cancer. Several members of the Royal family have been diagnosed starting from King Edward VIII to King Charles III. Even though this has been something the royal family has experienced, nobody is ever prepared for these kinds of situations according to history faculty Lauren O’Donnell.

“My heart goes out to her for having to go through this for it is something that nobody is prepared for,” said O’Donnell.  “I have been  following social media about where Kate is and feel guilty about how the media forced the news out of her,”

Many members of royal families as well as celebrities have sent their condolences and best wishes to Kate Middleton, according to Yahoo, Olivia Munn, an American actress, who is currently in her own battle with breast cancer has sent her condolences and expressed how she resonates with Kate, she said by commuting on the Princess’s video post.

“I’m a big fan of the TV show The Crown so there is a pathway to my small obsession with the royal family,” said Schmidt. “My family loves them as well so this news is hard on everyone.”
