Students gather in the Main Hall where they play casino games. The theme this year was Great Gatsby and it was Valentine’s Day for the previous 2 Winter Formals.

The annual winter formal occurred tonight in the Flood Mansion’s Main Hall. This year’s dance theme was Great Gatsby, in which students were encouraged to arrive in gold, silver, and black attire.

Decorations in the Main Hall were very festive, including pearls along with feather ornamental objects, along with balloons and candles. Student council also wanted to include 1920s style champagne glasses, according to sophomore Claire Li.

“Winter formal is always a very highly anticipated school wide event,” Li said. “It’s always super fun to see my peers all dressed up,”

Winter formal also involved activities such as casino games, along with a photo booth and ping pong table. The Reception Room was transformed into a dance floor with a DJ, according to sophomore Lila Pollak.

“Winter formal was a super fun experience this year,” Pollak said. “I especially liked the theme, as it felt like we were being transported a century back,”

The dance occurred from 6 pm to 9 pm, which allowed for time to get ready after school and sports practices. Students were able to purchase $30 admission tickets to the event up until 2:30 today, according to an email sent out by Community Life Chairs Michael Buckley and Paul Pryor-Lorentz.

“Guests were also welcome to the formal, where they had to sign in with a school ID,” Li said. “It is nice that this is not an exclusively school event, although it is one of the biggest school dances of the year.”
