This weekend, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift announced the release of her six-part documentary series on “Good Morning America”. The series will cover her entire journey on her record-breaking “Eras Tour,” which occurred in 51 cities across the world.
Swift also just released her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl”, with collaborators Max Martin and Shellback. She has also broken the record for most units of a record sold in the first week, with a total of 3,479,500 copies sold.
“It seems like Taylor Swift is breaking every single record recently,” senior Lila Pollak said. “I think that her music is so versatile and can appeal to so many different people,”
Swift has previously released a full-length film of the “Eras Tour” for screening back in Oct. 2023. However, this documentary series will include behind-the-scenes footage of the tour, and will be a deeper look into the process of putting on the show.
In addition to the documentary series, Swift will release a final cut version of the “Eras Tour” film, adding in the “The Tortured Poets Department” section of the concert. Because the album was released a year after the tour began, this section of the concert was not added until Swift’s European tour dates, and therefore was not featured in the film.
“I never got to experience ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ set since I saw the show before it was released,” senior Elizabeth Fox said. “I am excited that she is including that in this new film so that more people will be able to watch it.”
The documentary series is set to premiere on Disney+ and Hulu, with the release of the first two episodes on Dec. 12. The rest of the episodes will debut every week after the initial release date.
The series is set to include features from many of Swift’s friends and collaborators who have assisted in putting together the show. The series will spotlight many of the show’s dancers and performers, as well as some of the openers and guests of the show, including Ed Sheeran, Sabrina Carpenter, Gracie Abrams and more.
“I am hopeful that the series will offer more behind the scenes for the planning of the tour,” math faculty Lindsay MacGarva said. “I would love to know more about her workout routine, what she eats and how she prepared for this massive show.”
Swift stated on Instagram that this series will be the final chapter of the “Eras Tour,” celebrating the end of this era for her and her fans. The series will allow fans to look at the behind-the-scenes of Swift’s cultural phenomenon.
“I am so excited to watch this documentary series,” Pollak said. “I really loved the documentary she did on Netflix, and I hope this one is similar and will give a more unfiltered view of her experience.”
