Over the weekend, the winners of both the National League Championship Series and the American League Championship Series were solidified. The Los Angeles Dodgers won the NLCS against The New York Mets, and The New York Yankees won the ALCS against The Cleveland Guardians.
According to MLB, the MVP for the ALCS is Giancarlo Staton, and the MVP for the NLCS is Tommy Edman. The Dodgers and The Yankees are playing against each other in the World Series for the first time since 1981.
“I am not really a fan of either team playing this year,” junior Vivienne Legg said. “I still think that it will be a good series because both teams are very good,”
The Dodgers will have home field advantage because of their better overall record in the regular season games. There will be a total of seven world series games: three in New York and four in Los Angeles.
The first official game of the 2024 World Series is on Friday, Oct. 25, at Dodgers Stadium. If seven games are needed, the series will last until Nov. 2, but could end as soon as Oct. 29, because the first team to win four games will win the title.
“I think that this year’s matchup will be very fun and entertaining,” junior Lila Pollak said. “It is the ultimate west coast versus east coast showdown,”
Last year, The Dodgers spent $70 million to pay for their newest player Shohei Ohtani from the Los Angeles Angels. This is Shohei’s first year playing for The Dodgers and his first MLB World Series Game.
“I always loved watching baseball,” junior Lily Liao said. “My favorite parts are the last couple innings because they get very intense but exciting,”
The two leading players with the most at bats on their teams are Shohei Ohtani from the Dodgers with 54 home runs and Aaron Judge from the Yankees with 58. Despite these two players leading their teams in homeruns, both teams collectively have had very successful seasons, according to Liao.
With both teams having great seasons as well as loyal fanbases, the starting tickets for Game 1 of the World Series are starting at $1,200. The Dodgers will have home field advantage as the first game will be in Los Angeles at Dodgers stadium, making the first game super exciting, according to Legg.
“I think that it will be a very competitive match up,” Legg said. “I think many people will be very happy or disappointed with the outcome.”
