Senior IB artworks on display in the stairwell of the Siboni building. Other IB Art students’ pieces can be found lining the hall, prefacing the exhibition taking place later this evening.

On Thursday night, artwork from International Baccalaureate students in Visual Art will be exhibited in the Syufy Theater for students’ friends and family to enjoy. This exhibition is entirely student-led and curated and is a major milestone in the two-year course.

“I spent the majority of my time layering and refining my pieces,” senior Sofia Tobiason said. “I wanted to make sure everything worked well together and told a cohesive story,”

The art exhibition is one of the final projects of the IB Visual Art course alongside Comparative Study and Process Portfolio, according to TutorsPlus. It accounts for 40% of the student’s score and depending on whether they are an SL or HL student, the amount of pieces showcased vary from four to 11.

“I’m always very eager to see the creative production of our students and of course recognizing the unique vision that each of the students has,” said head of school Rachel Simpson. “I fully expect that this year’s exhibit will reveal the special talent of this year’s IB cohort,”

Students pick their best pieces to showcase because they will be internally assessed by a teacher and externally assessed by an IB examiner. Pieces in the artist’s exhibition also have to tell a cohesive story and message, according to ThinkIB.

“I’m excited to eventually be in the IB program and especially the art course because I thought it was really unique and I want to explore how it will lead me on a future career path,” said freshman Leila Sawicki. “If I can, I also am eager to see the exhibition tomorrow,”

The IB Final Art Exhibition Reception will have snacks, and families are invited to walk around the student-curated exhibition space. The reception starts at 5 p.m. and will include speeches from the artists, according to Tobiason.

“I’m looking forward to presenting my works at the exhibition,” Tobiason said. “It’s nice to be able to share them with others after working so hard.”
