WEB EXCUSIVE Mayor London Breed and Director of Health Dr. Grant Colfax announced in a press release on Saturday that San Francisco has reached the Purple Tier in COVID-19 cases, leading to a Limited Stay at Home Order that includes a city-wide curfew 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., effective Nov. 30.

“I feel like this curfew won’t really affect me,” sophomore Maya Lewis said, “however, there are times where I feel a little more paranoid and sad that we’re going backwards.”

Lewis is not alone in her disappointment with the rising number of cases state and county-wide.

“As citizens I feel like we need to be doing a better job of really respecting the COVID guidelines to make sure we are keeping everyone healthy,” freshman Coco Stenzler said. 

Schools like Convent & Stuart Hall that are already open for in-person learning will be able to remain open as long as they continue to follow health and safety guidelines. 

“I really enjoy in-person school, but going back feels a little more concerning,” freshman Samantha Buscemi said. “I think Convent & Stuart Hall is doing a great job at keeping students and staff safe, but I still want to be cautious.” 

Regardless of the county’s position on schools that have been okayed for in-person classes, it is not clear if the state will move to further limit in-person schooling. Lewis, for one, would not object to more rigid sheltering at home.

“At this rate, I honestly don’t think schools should be open,” Lewis said. “Being online is not ideal, but everyone has to make an effort to lower case numbers.”
