Joyful Noise and the school’s Choir put on an intimate, lighthearted performance of religious and secular Christmas carols in the partially filled Chapel for the annual Winter Concert last night.

“About three years ago we separated the instrumental and vocal concerts in the wintertime from Syufy to the Chapel,” director Billy Philadelphia said. “The acoustics in there are great for vocals and it gives the girls in the singing program an extra special something all their own.”

Joyful Noise director Kate McMichael and Philadelphia have been working together on both singing groups for the past nine years. The school choir meets twice a week in elective period and Joyful Noise meets once a week during activity period.

“This night is what we’ve been working towards since the beginning of the year, and it’s also a great way to share our Christmas spirit with the school.” junior Marie de Tomasi said.

Students and faculty performed solos, Christmas songs, and sophomore Catherine Heinen originally choreographed a dance to “Santa Baby.” The performance concluded with a sing-along including “Joy to the World,” “O Come all ye Faithful” and “Silent Night.”

“In the spring, we have Joyful Noise, the Girls Chorus, the Boys A Cappella Chorus, we have the Jazz Band and the full school orchestra which makes this night important,” Philadelphia said.
