For the 2025-2026 school year, faculty at Convent and Stuart hall have curated a new student schedule. Some of the main changes to this schedule include hour-long class blocks, a 55 minute lunch period and three class meetings per week.
This academic schedule consists of five classes a day, each being one hour long. However, on Wednesdays, an hour long ‘Community Time’ takes place, allowing for weekly chapels, clubs or other community events, according to senior Abby Chacon Lara.
“I’ve really enjoyed the schedule change this year,” Chacon Lara said. “It’s been a little difficult to adjust to so far, but besides that I’ve liked changing to hour-long classes,”
This schedule organizes students’ eight classes into blocks labeled W, X, Y, X and A, B, C, D. Blocks W, X, Y, Z are designated into morning classes, while A,B,C,D only take place in the afternoon. Additionally, upper and lower division students are loosely separated on different campuses, as a majority of 11th and 12th students are on the Broadway Campus, and 9th and 10th students are located at Stuart Hall, according to sophomore Laila Turner.
“I really like the schedule so far,” Turner said. “Even though class time is a lot shorter, I’m happy that we have a much longer lunch,”
In previous years, schedules have similarly been block schedules but instead of five classes a day, it would range from three to four depending on the day. Class times were also running for seventy to ninety-five minutes, according to junior Stella Ramelot.
“While I love the new schedule, the shorter blocks can be harder to get into content for class,” Ramelot said. “However, it is also great because we’re not sitting in class for too long,”
With three consecutive years of different schedules, each one is designed to benefit the students and the typical study habits. In addition to classes that occur three times a week, so do the resource blocks that allow students to meet with teachers or study with classmates.
“Since we have 5 classes a day now, I feel like the school day goes by a lot quicker that before,” Chacon Lara said. “Even though this is just the first week, I really think this new schedule is going to help us have a great year.”
