On Jan. 30, three days before the 2025 Grammy Awards Ceremony, a fundraising mega-event will be taking place to support the fire relief efforts in the Los Angeles Area. Many famous music stars will be performing simultaneously in the Intuit Dome and at the Kia Forum both in Inglewood, California.
The famous musicians in this concert’s lineup include artists like Gracie Abrams, Billie Eillish, Lil Baby, Tate McRae, Gwen Stefani and John Mayer. Labelled “FireAid,” not only will there be options to attend the concert live, FireAid is planned to be broadcasted at select AMC movie theatres and other platforms such as YouTube, Apple Music, iHeartRadio, SiriusXM and Paramount, according to the FireAid LA.
“I think that it is so amazing seeing these musicians use their loyal fanbases in order to support a great cause,” junior Winnie Chun said. “It truly shows the sense of community that all the Hollywood stars share,”
While this concert is a great way for artists to show their support to the LA community and those who have been affected by the fires, it also will become the focal point of pre-Grammy week. Typically before Grammy week, famous record labels and talent agencies host showcases for their artists but instead, these resources have been put towards also supporting fire relief.
“It’s really nice to see how these stars can break traditions to help provide their support to the cause,” junior Lillian McConathy said. “Many of them or their friends and family may have been affected by the fires so to see them use their fame for the better is something great to see,”
While the pre-Grammy events have been diverted towards supporting fire relief, dissent in the arts industry has been surrounding the decisions from Recording Academy’s to continue the scheduled programming of the Grammys on Feb. 2. However, the Recording Academy, along with MusiCares have pledged $1 million for the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort, according to the Recording Academy.
“To see members of the Los Angeles community put together something so last minute yet so impactful is inspiring,” junior Lily Liao said. “The sense of urgency contributes to that sense of community,”
Announced only eight days before showtime with no artists attached to it, FireAid concert has already had great turnout and support both from artists and music fans. Furthermore, this concert is being produced by Los Angeles based Live Nation and AEG Presents, and Irving Azoff, a longtime artist manager and former CEO of TicketMaster.
“It is heartwarming to see how music can bring so many people together in times like these,” Chun said. “It is a testament to the power that music has in our lives.
