CAUTION: Great British Baking Show FINALE SPOILERS!
The 11th collection of the Great British Baking Show, also known as the Great British Bake Off, premiered its finale on Friday, Dec 1. The Great British Baking Show is a reality competition in which 12 amateur bakers from the United Kingdom compete in a series of challenges throughout 10 episodes.
Season 11 premiered its first episode on Netflix on Friday, Sep. 29, and episodes continued to come out weekly every continuing Friday. This year, comedian Alison Hammond joined Noel Fielding as a host, which brought a breath of fresh air to the show, according to freshman Wren Walton.
“I’m very excited that there’s a female host this year.” Walton said, “I think it’s refreshing to represent women in the baking community.”
The finale aired on Channel 4, bringing in 4.38 million viewers to watch the episode live, according to 4 Sales. The remaining bakers, Matty, Josh, and Dan competed in three challenges: the signature, the technical, and the showstopper.
“I really enjoy baking and think it super fun to watch The Great British Baking Show because even though I know I’m nowhere near their level, it is still fun to root for my favorites and freak out whenever something happens that I don’t like,” freshman Nina Swain said. “In the end, it’s ok though because it’s just a fun reality show that can keep me entertained for hours,”
Previous winners of the Great British Baking Show have gone on to release cookbooks, write newspaper columns, and host masterclasses. The show has been renewed for the 2024 season, which fans say they are looking forward to, according to Swain.
“I look forward to seeing what surprises the next seasons will bring,” Walton said, “I think it’s so amazing what they can create in a few hours, so much so that it encourages me to bake as well.”
