Today, Convent’s varsity volleyball team will compete in the first round of NCS, the North Coast Section tournament at 7 p.m. NCS is part of a statewide organization, which arranges sports contests and activities for all high schools across California.
The Cubs earned a spot in this competition through lots of hard work and determination throughout their entire season, according to sophomore volleyball varsity Lillian McConathy. Out of many schools in Northern California, Convent’s volleyball team is part of division 5, and was selected as one of 16 teams selected to participate in this tournament.
“We are all very excited for the opportunity to take part in NCS, especially after not making it to our league playoffs,” McConathy said. “We had a few losses that I think we shouldn’t have had, but overall we did play well together and I’ve had a lot of fun,”
In NCS, each school is ranked based on their wins and losses throughout their season. Convent is ranked in the 7th slot in this tournament, and will be competing against the 10th ranked team, College Prep high school, according to varsity volleyball junior Brooke Latch.
“I feel really confident in our team and I know we can beat College Prep,” Latch said. “We are three spots ahead of them and I know that we can win with determination and hard work,”
Today marks the official beginning of the NCS tournament, as every school will be competing at the same time across Northern California. Results from each bracket will be posted online, according maxpreps.com
“I think the competition in our bracket is pretty good,” said volleyball varsity freshman Nayalin Lobo. “But I think we are better than the other teams, and we can for sure win against the upcoming schools,”
If Convent wins the first bracket of this tournament, the Cubs will move on to play their next game this Saturday, October 28, against the Bay School. The Bay School is ranked 2nd and will be a competitive match for the cubs, according to Lillian McConathy
“If we beat College Prep, we are all going to be very determined to beat Bay School,” McConathy said. “Especially since we lost to them during our preseason game, we are ready to get our revenge and beat them”.
