#OscarsSoWhite can open eyes to stereotypes and diversity issues

For the second year in a row, Academy award nominees lack diversity — creating the trending hashtag #OscarsSoWhite.

Some actors are responding by boycotting, protesting and public voicing their opinions about the ceremony.

The following Saturday Night Live sketch also grants a more satirical outlook on the Academy awards being viewed as white-dominated:

 

Currently, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is made up of 94% white members and 77% male members. In lieu of the angry responses to the all-white nominations, the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made changes to the Academy’s membership, moving toward a more diverse organization.
