On Dec. 3, Spotify dropped its Spotify Wrapped. Every year for the past 10 years, they send out everyone’s personal listening habits for the year. It has become a very anticipated drop every year.
It included data and graphics on top artists, songs, albums, genres, and podcasts, and often personal messages from your favorite artists. This year, Spotify added things like what your listening age is based on what music you listen to and music clubs based on your listening pattern to Spotify Wrapped. Some of the music clubs are Club Serotonin, which is for music listeners who listen to good vibes, energetic, and optimistic music, or Cloud State Society, which is for Dreamy, chill, and zen music listeners.
“I thought it was cool to see what my listening age was,” Sophomore Gulia Putt said. “I couldn’t wait till it came out to talk about it with my friends,”
Spotify Wrapped became so popular that other music streaming platforms started to do their own version. Apple Music’s version is called “Replay” and has also become popular among Apple Music users.
“I use Apple Music, so I am really happy Apple Music has also started doing wraps”, sophomore Taliyah Bennet said. “Although it’s different from Spotify Wrapped, I can still talk about it with my friends, and it’s a fun addition.”
Spotify has become a big internet sensation and is always all over social media. People love to post their Spotify Wrapped results and talk about them with others online. Last year, it got a lot of heat for using too much AI. People found that it was impersonal and generic, had nonsensical content, and replaced beloved human-crafted elements, causing users to be frustrated over the loss of authenticity and accuracy in Spotify Wrapped.
“I actually think Spotify Wrapped is really cool,” science teacher Ellery Jones said. “It is interesting to get to look at my listening habits, and the students seem to really like it.”
Spotify Wrapped has become a loved tradition that allows users to look at their listening habits of the year and get a way to connect to others. It has a new feature every year, and students at Convent are very excited to see what Spotify Wrapped has in store each year.
“I liked the presentation and graphics of it,” Putt said. “I like how it is different every year, and I am already anticipating next year’s Wrapped.”
