Today, Convent and Stuart Hall’s first ever school store, DSCO (Drinks, Snacks, Community Office), officially opened on the Pine Octavia campus. The store is located in a former office space on the first floor.
DSCO was organized by teachers Lauren O’Donnel and Anthony Clemons as an initiative to expand the school fund. The store is primarily managed by students involved in Student Council, however, students interested in running it can sign up for limited spaces according to senior Adania Cooper.
“I’m so excited for the student store to be open now,” Cooper said. “I love that they have so many different kinds of snacks and drinks at a cheaper price on campus.”
Varying from gatorade to KIND bars and beef jerky to instant oatmeal, DSCO features a variety of snacks and drinks at an affordable cost. Students can easily pay for items using a credit card, apple pay or any type of digital payment according to junior Taylor Schofield.
“I think it’s a really good idea how they opened a student store,” Schofield said. “I hope in the future we are able to open one at Broadway too.”
Starting today, DSCO will be open every day during each passing period and occasionally before and after school. After quarter 2, another store may be opened on the Broadway campus, according to athletics trainer Kailey Chan.
“I think it’s really nice for student athletes to have a resource to get food,” Chan said. “Especially if they didn’t have the chance to eat lunch, it’s extremely helpful to keep students filled throughout the day.”
Rather than going to the corner store, DSCO allows students a more efficient way for students to get snacks on campus. 100% of profit from all items sold will be contributed to school events such as dances and congé according to freshman Scarlett Krogh-Jensen,
“I really like how this store has a lot of options and it’s very affordable,” Krogh-Jensen said. “It has an amazing snack selection and is super accessible for everyone.”
Along with Mr. Clemons and Ms. O’Donnel, DSCO is fully operated by students, being primarily supported by the student council. Additionally, students have the opportunity to volunteer at the store and earn service hours.
“I think it’s a really cool opportunity for students to get alternate options for lunch,” Cooper said. “Students can also learn how to do inventory and earn service hours which is a big plus.”
