Today, the Convent Varsity Golf team came in second place in the Bay Area Conference (BAC) League Championships. After a successful regular season going 14 wins and two losses, the Varsity girls also placed second in the regular BAC league.
The Convent Varsity Golf team’s season started in the beginning of the school year and the BAC League Championship marked the end of their season. Over the course of the season, the Cubs faced schools like Marin Academy, San Domenico, Urban School of San Francisco and Bay School, in nine hole stroke play matches where the sum of lowest four scores from each team contributed to the final score. In the league, the lowest collective score between the competing teams won the match.
“I think that as a team, we did really well this season,” junior Stella Ramelot said. “The camaraderie and support for each other was good and our overall team spirit was high throughout the season,”
In past seasons, Convent’s main competitor has been Marin Academy, who was also the team to hand the Cubs their only two losses this season. The rivalry has been close over the past few years—last season, the Cubs narrowly defeated Marin Academy after having fewer pick-ups, a rule in which players can pick up their ball after a set number of strokes.
“Joining the team as a new player was a little intimidating at first,” freshman Lily Morgan said. “But as the season went on, I became more comfortable with everyone.”
As the season progressed, the team’s chemistry strengthened, and several players achieved personal best scores. Beyond the Varsity team, the Developmental team also showed a lot of talent and future potential. With the combination of talent and motivation, Convent’s golf program has a solid one two punch, according to Head Varsity Coach Matthew Woodard.
“The girls have shown so much growth and resilience this year,” Woodard said. “They’ve developed not just as athletes but as teammates who truly support one another. Placing second in both the regular season and championships is an incredible achievement that reflects their effort and focus all coming together.”
For the seniors, the tournament marked the end of their high school golf careers, while younger players gained valuable experience for the seasons ahead. With plenty of upcoming potential, the seniors will be leaving the team to a good group of players, according to Ramelot.
“It was really nice getting to know my teammates over the course of the past three years,” Ramelot said. “This last tournament was a great end to our season and I am looking forward to next year.”
