The National Football Leauge recently announced the 2025-26 Superbowl Halftime performance. This year the NFL chose Puerto Rican rapper and record producer Bad Bunny, making him the first Latin male artist to perform.
“I was really excited to hear that Bad Bunny is going to be performing at the Super Bowl,” junior Arria Shimizu said. “To be completely honest, I was a little underwhelmed with last year’s show, so I think this year will be really exciting,”
Earlier this year, on Jan. 5, 2025, Bad Bunny released his most recent and successful album, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” (DTMF). This album delivered a mixture of emotional songs, hits that one you can dance to and more to celebrate the rich history, beauty, and musical stylings of Puerto Rico.
Bad Bunny’s new album not only encapsulates the culture of Puerto Rico, but also the long history between the United States and Puerto Rico. His most political song, “El Apagón” (The Blackout) is a critique of the gentrifications and injustices all Puerto Ricans have to face while living in the country, according to Los40.
“I am absolutely excited for Bad Bunny to perform at the Halftime show because I think that he is an amazing artist,” Spanish teacher Antony Reyes said. “I watched Bad Bunny perform on Saturday Night Live and enjoyed the part when he spoke to the audience in Spanish about the Latino presence in the United States and how it is impossible to avoid them despite current events. By him doing the Super Bowl performance shows how we all benefit from Latinos in our country.”
Since the announcement, many supporters of President Trump have expressed their criticism of Bad Bunny performing. Specifically, in regards to Bad Bunny continuously voicing his opinions on the current political state in America. During his SNL monologue, Bad Bunny addressed these criticisms by speaking in Spanish, saying that the Latinos and Latinas hard work, perseverance and existence in the world and in the United States can’t be taken away or erased, according to Axios.
“I’m super excited that Bad Bunny is performing at the upcoming Super Bowl,” junior Alexandra Herrmann said. “His music is amazing and he is a great performer, so I am especially looking forward to seeing him perform songs from his new album.”
There has been much speculation around what Bad Bunny’s setlist for the halftime show is going to be. It is evident that many of the songs will come from his most recent album, “DTMF”, but some speculate that he might perform songs from “YHLQMDLG” (2020), “El Último Tour del Mundo” (2020), and/or “Un Verano Sin Ti” (2022), according to Los40.
“Bad Bunny’s performances always have a vibe and his songs are definitely energetic and pumps up the crowd,” Shimizu said. “I really hope he performs the song ‘Baile Inovidable’.”
