This year, we celebrated the LIX Super Bowl, which was on Feb. 11, between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. This was the 59th championship game in NFL history, and it took place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Millions of people watched from around the world, making it one of the biggest sporting events of the year.
The Eagles won this game, defeating the Chiefs with a score of 40-22. For most of the game, Philadelphia maintained their strong early lead. The Chiefs, attempting to win the Super Bowl for the third consecutive year, found it hard to keep up.
“I am an Eagles fan, and it was nice to see them win,” freshman Julia Ahlstrand said. “I would have liked to see a better game rather than the Eagles winning by a ton so it would have been more entertaining.”
This game could have made NFL history since it would have been the Chief’s third year in a row winning the Super Bowl. Many fans were excited to see if the Chiefs could make history, but the Eagles took the win. Their strong defense stopped Kansas City’s best plays and made it hard for them to score.
“I didn’t pay much attention to this year’s Super Bowl since the 49ers weren’t playing,” freshman Valerie Repik said. “But it was fun to see the halftime show.”
Super Bowl 59 wasn’t just about football. The halftime show featured Kendrick Lamar, who performed a mix of his biggest hits. Advertisers also paid millions of dollars for commercials, making this event a huge part of American culture.
“I was sick of the chief winning,” Head of School Tony Farrel said. “I found the lack of excitement satisfying.”
Every year, the Super Bowl brings people together, whether they are watching the game, the music, or the ads. It has become more than just a football game but a major event that many Americans look forward to every year.
“I thought the halftime show was good, except I think it was too short,” Ahlstrand said. “I know all halftime shows are usually short, however, it wasn’t anything super-duper special.”
