Last Saturday at 4 p.m., the Stuart Hall Knights football team took on Anzar at Kezar Stadium for homecoming night. To bring an end to the school’s spirit week, the Knights defeated Anzar with a win of 74 to 6.
“I really liked the game this year and I thought it was fun to support my school,” freshman Sophina Duong said. “This was my first homecoming in high school, and I am definitely excited for more school events to come—I love seeing people take time out of their weekend to show school spirit when they don’t have to,”
The game hosted people from all grades in the K-12 community, and many parents and teachers also attended to support the Knights. There was a concession stand to raise money for the student council with pizza, drinks, candy, and old merchandise from various Convent and Stuart Hall athletic teams. These profits go towards funding other fun events in the future, such as Winter Formal and Prom.
“The game was a great opportunity to support the football team as well as spend time with friends,” junior Adania Cooper said. “However, the game was slow at times and there could have been some better turnout from the student body,”
The final score was 74-6, solidifying an incredible finish from the Knights for Homecoming. Throughout the game, many great plays were made and the team showed our community their talents for this special night. Although this is fun to watch, many fans reported that they would prefer to see a more well matched opponent next year to make the game feel more fair and exciting, according to Cooper.
The football game closed a week-long celebration at school with themed dress days and homecoming volleyball on Friday as well. From the stands, fans excitedly cheered on their friends and classmates on the field, and this energy aided the team to secure the victory, according to Duong.
“Overall I’m glad that we have both great volleyball and football teams to root for on homecoming,” Duong said. “Spirit week was also really enjoyable and I love how much build up there is to homecoming.”
