Monday marked the first day of this year’s annual school spirit week. Leading up to the Homecoming games and dance on Sept. 27 and Sept. 28, the school hosts an event-filled “Spirit Week” that includes specific dress days, Mass of the Holy Spirit, and other events.
This year, there are four themed dress Spirit Days, as well as a full dress uniform day on Thursday for Mass of the Holy Spirit. The other themed days are pajama day, jersey day, teacher-student swap day, and Red Out
“I think I’m looking forward to jersey day the most—I have a great Steph Curry jersey that I’m going to break out,” Community Life Chair Michael Buckley said. “I’m also looking forward to Red Out on Friday in support of the volleyball game that night,”
Pajama and jersey day have been common school spirit themes over the years, but a new theme this year is teacher-student swap day. This day is for students who want to dress as a teacher, and for teachers who want to appear as a student for a day.
“Spirit week is already so much fun because I’m wearing my pajamas today,” freshman Caroline Koch said. “I’m super excited for the rest of the week,”
A new addition to spirit week this year is the Homecoming movie night in the Little Theater after the volleyball game on Friday. The movie will be “High School Musical,” where food and refreshments will be provided.
“I am interested in the new Homecoming event format,” junior Lila Pollak said. “I think that this idea is cool and the movie choice is fun,”
Spirit week leads up to the upcoming football and volleyball games. These games give the school an opportunity to come together as a community and uphold school spirit, according to Pollak.
The volleyball game will take place after school on Friday against Summit Tamalpais, with both varsity and junior varsity teams playing in the Herbert Center. The football game will take place the next day at Kezar stadium against Anzar.
The Homecoming sports games also have corresponding themes so that students can dress as a community. The theme for the volleyball game is Red Out and Gray Out for the football game the next day, according to Buckley.
“I’m so fired up for our homecoming games,” Buckley said. “I’m always excited for our students to show how much they care about each other and to support one another in striving to be their best.”
