Last Saturday, Sept. 14, the Convent JV and Varsity Volleyball teams played a tournament at California Crosspoint in Hayward. Both teams went undefeated in all the matches they played.
This was the first volleyball tournament of the season for the Convent Volleyball teams, and was played right after their first league match against the University High School on Friday. Although this match resulted in a loss for the Varsity team, they made up for it with their massive win this weekend, according to sophomore Sydney Meier.
“It was a great tournament and I think we played really well, especially in the last three games,” Meier said. “The teams weren’t too difficult and it was great to have this win after our unfortunate loss on Friday.”
The team played four matches in total on Saturday, competing against Cornerstone Christian, Quarry Lane, North Hills Christian, and International High School. The tournament started early in the morning, which led to a short-lasting slow start according to sophomore Kate Jones.
“We were definitely a little tired in the morning but as the day went on we got more hyped,” Jones said. “By the last game we were very excited, especially since it was the final match.”
The Junior Varsity team ended up finishing in an undecided tie for first place, but was undefeated the entire tournament. The next big volleyball game will be the homecoming game against Marin Academy next week on Sept. 27. The team hopes to keep their winning streak going to win the game, according to Meier.
“I think winning this tournament is a good start to the rest of the year,” Meier said. “The homecoming game will be difficult but I think we have seen that we can play well in these big matches.”
