All community members connected to the school’s network will be denied wifi access if they have not updated their iPads and iPhones by March 17.
The update includes data security advancements for the iPhone 4, 5th generation iPod touch, iPad 2 and newer generations and prevents potential hackers from accessing users’ personal information.
“What could have potentially happened is that you would go to a coffee shop, like Starbucks, and establish a secure connection on the public wifi.” Client Assistant Manager Nick McSpadden said. “It would allow potential hackers to hijack the network and any information you enter.”
Students, teachers and staff have been notified via email to update their devices as soon as possible to avoid risk.
“Your device will not be able to connect to the school network until you’ve updated it.” McSpadden said. “It’s starting to get serious. Anybody going to a public wifi is potentially at risk.”
