Winter break was a time for students to relax, ski, and for some, travel to new countries on school trips. The school winter break trips offered this year were to Rome, Mexico and London and Paris. These exciting week-long trips brought students to new places where they learned more about the city’s culture, history and people.
“I thought the British Museum in London was really cool and pretty,” senior Fia Douglas said. “Seeing the Rosetta Stone in person was really interesting after learning about it in school,”
Students on the “Enlightenment” trip, a science and math focused adventure, first visited London where they dove into learning about the Enlightenment period. Within their exploration, their first museum was the British Museum.
“I loved the trip and it was really interesting to see Cambridge because I had never gone there before,” math teacher Lindsay MacGarva said. “My favorite was Paris because it’s my favorite city and loved showing everyone around.”
During the London extent of the trip, students took a train to Cambridge and got a special tour of one of Cambridge’s colleges. There, at the Cambridge college, students learned interesting details about the school such as the fact that all students in the college have to wear robes while at the dining hall, and that there are only 450 students at the college. Another fun fact about that specific college was that the founder of Harvard, John Harvard, first studied at Cambridge.
While in Paris students saw Notre Dame, the Rodin museum and visited the best croissant place in Paris. Students were able to learn about the city’s history while immersing themselves in the city’s present day culture and beauty.
“I loved Paris; the city is just so gorgeous,” Douglas said. “The trip was very memorable.”
