With the holiday break only five short days away, this upcoming week of school will be full of preparation and exciting activities. The holidays are a time of celebration and gathering with family and friends for everyone, so this week of preparation helps to extend that excitement into school hours.
“I’m so excited for Christmas break,” freshman Melissa Liu said, “I cannot wait to be able to go skiing in Tahoe and hang out with friends.”
Each day of this week brings a new exciting themed dress option. On Mondays, students are invited to wear ugly christmas sweaters and on Tuesday, they are asked to wear red and green attire.
In honor of Noels, students are to wear full uniform on Wednesday for the school concert. Noels is a festive tradition held every year that involves K-12 students singing Christmas songs in differing languages, such as Spanish, French, Mandarin and Latin.
“I love our annual Noels especially because it is so fun to see the little kids sing,” grade chair Sarah Garlinghouse said. “The French songs are also the same from when I went to school here, so it is really fun to watch that tradition continue.”
On Thursday, students will gear up in Santa hats, reindeer ears and festive accessories, and on Friday, to finish out the week, students are invited to wear cozy flannels.
Many other festive activities will take place during the week as well, including a hot chocolate bar on Thursday and a Drinks Snacks Community Office (DSCO) gift card prize for the best dressed.
Students aren’t just suiting up at school to prepare for the big day, they are getting ready at home. While students are expected to travel to see family or enjoy their holiday, many will stay at home and enjoy a classic San Francisco holiday season.
“I am so excited for Christmas!” freshman Lija Walcott said. “I am watching Christmas movies, listening to Christmas music, making wish lists and gift wrapping for people to prepare for Christmas. It helps me to get excited and spread out the festivities over a longer time.”
After finishing off 2025 strong, a two week break is a great way to reset for the new year. Whether students travel to see relatives they haven’t seen in awhile, or stay close to home, winter break is a long awaited rest.
“I think spirit week is a great way to finish off the year,” Liu said. “It makes the last week much more fun and interactive, which makes me more excited for Christmas gifts and treats!”
