Finally, after more than three years, “Stranger Things” is back next week. Just two weeks ago, the official trailer for Season five was released, followed by the first five minutes of the first episode of Season five to draw audiences back into the science-fiction show.
“I cannot wait for the new season now that I’ve watched the first five minutes since it takes place in Season one,” said sophomore Caroline Koch. “It makes me want to know why they are bringing us back to when Will first went missing,”
“Stranger Things” was first released in July, 2016, and immediately became popular because people were very intrigued by the show’s science fiction and mystery aspects. “Stranger Things” is a show that takes place in Indiana during the 80’s. It is about a group of kids and what they do when their friend mysteriously goes missing, as well as the challenges they have to face on the way.
Volume 1 of “Stranger Things” Season five releases on Nov. 26, Volume 2 on Dec. 25, and the finale on Dec. 31. Now that it is so close to the release date, everyone is getting excited about the release and creating new theories online.
One popular theory that most people are talking about is that the character Will was the start of everything. Another interesting theory was about the green dragon from the game “Dungeons and Dragons”, stating that the green dragon has been secretly controlling all the monsters in the show to take over the world.
“I don’t pay much attention to the theories that I see online,” sophomore Sophie Dessle said. “But, I think that the one about Will is fascinating and is definitely possible.”
It has been almost a decade since the beloved show started. This has helped it develop a huge fanbase with people of all ages. While waiting for the seasons to come out, “Stranger Things” has also come out with a musical and a play that have allowed the show to expand its cult-following.
“I got into ‘Stranger Things’ because it was the peak of the retro 80s vibe that I had when I was a kid. All the music, clothes, and everything in it were just how it was when I was younger,” ethics faculty Clint Hakenburg says. “I like shows and books where kids have to meet and fight a monster, similar to the movie ‘IT’.”
With this huge fanbase, many people have become attached to the show and do not want it to end. Most people watching have fallen in love with the characters and the plot, so they will miss waiting for new seasons.
“It is a very bittersweet feeling because I am so excited to see what happens since I have been waiting for so long,” Koch said. “But I am also sad it is coming to an end.”
