On Oct. 19, Lorde came back to the Bay Area for a one-night-only concert at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. With her last performance in the Bay in 2022, fans packed the outdoor venue to hear the soulful singer’s exquisite voice and emotional lyrics.
“I was shocked at how moving her concert was,” junior Delphina Traina said. “The show felt simple but very well thought out,”
During the concert, Lorde told her fans how special the Greek Theater was to her, explaining that the first and last time she performed at the venue was back in 2014. In 2014 she was just 18 years old, and on Sunday evening she was back as her 28 year-old self, singing old and new hit songs.
“I love Lorde; I was actually her for Halloween one year” math teacher Lindsay MacGarva said. “I saw her at Outside Lands and she was amazing.”
One of the concert’s fan-favorite moments took place near the end of the concert when Lorde walked up the aisles, mingling with the audience while singing her newly-released song, “David”, from the 2025 album, “Virgin”. At that point in the show, Lorde donned a jacket with LED light panels that gave off a mesmerizing feel and helped her stay visible among the excited concert-goers.
“I loved seeing her get up on the stairs of the venue and sing,” sophomore Amelia White said. “Her jacket made her seem magical.”
Another high point of the show was the final song,” Ribs”, which Lorde wrote at the age of 16. “Ribs” is about the joy, fear and anxiety of being a teenager and the experience of adolescence. At the close of her concert on the 19, Lorde sang “Ribs” while walking up and down the aisle to connect directly with fans during the heartfelt and highly-personal song.
“‘Ribs’ almost made me cry,” Traina said. “She sang most of the song near a group of teenage girls and it was so sweet.”
