Ever since Aug. 26, high school students have been rushing to the nearest Starbucks to try the new, seasonal Starbucks fall menu. While it’s a perfect way to start off the school year, ever since the implementation of the new rule banning drinks during classes, getting a Starbucks drink is much harder.
“I am always so disappointed at Starbucks because the pumpkin cold foam is my favorite, but I cannot have it since I am lactose intolerant,” sophomore Seneca Moeller said. “I really hope that they will come up with something like that that is dairy-free, for it is my favorite part of the drink,”
Some of the new and most popular drinks include, the pumpkin spice latte, the ice pumpkin cream chai, and another favorite, the pumpkin cream cheese muffin. However, a recurring problem arose that Starbucks has not been providing lactose free options in all of their beverages. The pumpkin cream chai is a fan favorite and Starbucks has not come out with a dairy-free version of the cold foam.
“As a person whose friend is lactose intolerant, it is always sad to watch them watch me drink my delicious pumpkin cold foam chai,” sophomore Laela Koenigsberg said. “I always feel bad that I can’t give them a sip.”
For those who are sensitive to dairy, it is very inconvenient to want a pumpkin cream chai and sacrifice their stomach hurting the whole day. Around 65% of people all over the world are lactose intolerant to some extent, according to Medline Plus. This makes it much harder for people who are Starbucks lovers to enjoy their drinks, especially the seasonal ones.
“Whenever I teach my class after school, I always see people with their Starbucks drinks,” ethics teacher Clint Hackenburg said. “My students say I must try it.”
Although many people may want to enjoy the fall season with the essentials, many people cannot. This makes it very hard because everybody should be able to experience the miracle working drink, the iced pumpkin cream chai with the pumpkin spice cold foam.
“That is the only thing I look forward to during math class is my iced pumpkin cream chai,” Moeller said. “However, I cannot enjoy that until they make an alternative version.”
