The 77th annual Emmy award show aired on Sunday night, with “Adolescence”, “The Studio”, “The Pitt” and “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” being some of the night’s big winners. The award show also featured a surprise “Gilmore Girls” reunion, among other things.
“Gilmore Girls” fans got a huge surprise at this year’s Emmys when series stars Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham reunited on the red carpet, followed by a presentation by the two together on-stage at the 2025 awards. This reunion was in honor of the show’s 25th anniversary, according to junior Ainsley Smith.
“I really enjoyed watching the Emmys even though I didn’t know many of the shows that won awards,” Smith said. “My favorite parts were seeing all the stars’ outfits on the red carpet and the Gilmore Girls reunion,”
The Gilmore Girls reunion wasn’t the only hot topic of the night. Hannah Einbinder made headlines after winning Outstanding Supporting Actress for playing Ava Daniels in “Hacks,” and ending her acceptance speech by making a political statement that denounced the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids and the Israel-Palestine conflict, according to junior Amy Gonzales.
“Hannah Einbinder gained my respect when she made the grand statement of ‘f– ICE and free Palestine,’” Gonzales said. “It made me proud to see how some celebrities are intentional with their platform about serious topics that need attention and change.”
This year, the TV series “Severance” was nominated for 41 awards in various categories. Out of the 41 nominations, “Severance” won 10 Emmys, according to Television Academy.
“I am really glad Severance took home a lot of awards, and I think Dan Gilroy did an incredible job writing Andor,” biology teacher Daniel Raffa said. “Andor is my favorite show on TV.”
For several years, the Emmys have been known for being very predictable by always rewarding the same shows over and over again, but this year was different. With the exception of the Netflix limited series, “Adolescence” winning six awards, the night was pretty unpredictable. This was especially the case with the TV series, “The Pitt” winning Best Drama over TV series “Severance,” according to Ainsley Smith.
“It was very exciting to feel the anticipation when they announced big categories like Best Comedy and Best Drama,” Smith said. “I am very excited to tune in next year and for the other award shows to come!”
