On Thursday morning, Convent and Stuart Hall seniors woke up at the crack of dawn and drove across the Golden Gate Bridge in the dark, in order to watch the sun rise as a class. A “Senior Sunrise” is a popular tradition amongst high school seniors to commemorate the beginning of their final year of high school.
The event had been planned about a week prior to the occasion over a group chat. The planning involved choosing a date and location, as well as the overall logistics of the event. After some debate and a Google form, the senior class decided on the Battery Spencer Observation Deck in Marin County.
Factored into the decision of location and date were things such as clearance from the fog, the prettiest view, and availability of the meeting spot. Everyone in the class pitched in to make the morning as fun as possible. Some seniors brought food, such as bagels, coffee, and donuts, and others brought blankets or digital cameras for the best pictures.
Since the Senior Sunrise is not school-sponsored, the senior class planned and set up the whole event on their own, encouraging everyone to wake up early and participate in the unforgettable senior tradition.
This event was the first of many upcoming senior traditions that the class of 2026 will partake in during the school year. This one is particularly special, as it showcased the leadership and strong connection between the senior class.
Watching the sunrise is such a wonderful experience to have, and doing it with a close group of classmates makes it all the more special. With just about a week of planning, the senior class was able to plan a fun and memorable morning.
