Since the beginning of the school year, Convent & Stuart Hall’s theater program has been preparing for the production of The Addams Family Musical. This 5th-8th grade musical is planned to take place in the Syufy theater in the beginning of November.
The Addams Family Musical tells the story about the whimsical Addams family and Wednesday’s journey of becoming closer to her family, especially her mother. In the plot, Wednesday falls in love with a boy named Lucas, whose character is very different from her own. This musical highlights the importance of family through a beautiful coming of age story, according to sophomore Trinity Joa.
“I really love being a part of the theater program at our school,” Joa said. “I feel like it’s a great way for us to build relationships and community with everyone at all grade levels,”
In the spirit of Halloween, the performance is scheduled to take place on Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. and again at 2 p.m. on Nov. 2. In addition, there will be a faculty preview of the performance on Oct. 30, according to junior Adania Cooper.
“Even though I am not part of the theater program, I think our performing arts program is very inclusive and creates opportunities for everyone, not just for people interested in singing,” Cooper said. “I’m really looking forward to watching it next week.”
The cast from The Addams Family Musical consists of students in both the Convent & Stuart Hall middle school as well as in the high school. Throughout the year, the Convent and Stuart Hall’s theater program has four main productions: a Grade 5–8 play, a Grade 5–12 musical, a high school play, and Student Arts Workshop, according sophomore Bibiana Reñazco-Magelssen.
“I think it’s really cool our theater program has plays that include students in both the middle school and the high school,” Reñazco-Magelssen said. “It adds more energy and character to our school plays,”
As the first theater production of the school year, all students are encouraged to attend the musical. Tickets can be reserved on the official Convent and Stuart Hall theater website. Although not a requirement, A $10 donation is recommended for those who purchase tickets according to Trinity Joa.
“I’m cast as Wednesday Addams and I’m really excited to be a part of the musical this year,” Joa said. “It’s always fun to be a part of a big production, and working with the middle schoolers has actually been really rewarding, since they bring a lot of energy to our rehearsals.”
