Today, student club leaders helped host the annual club fair to introduce their clubs to the school community. This is the chance for new clubs to try and recruit four members minimum to have their club fully established.
“We are starting the Art Club this year to help donate art supplies to kids and encourage students to participate in visual arts to improve their own happiness,” sophomore Vivienne Tang said. “We are happy a lot of people signed up at the Club Fair,”
The new Student Activity Coordinators Lauren O’Donnell and Anthony Clemmons have implemented new “FLEX” block time so that clubs can have a designated time to meet. Their goal is to make clubs a bigger part of school life on campus, according to college counselor Tom Esponnette.
“There’s dedicated club times every other week or so for clubs to meet because last year clubs didn’t have as much dedicated time or space,” Esponnette said. “The rotation is going to be a great opportunity and I feel more students are going to have a greater impact on a club,”
This year’s system for deciding when clubs will meet has changed as well. After the club leaders finish presenting their clubs, students choose the top clubs that they would like to join, and fill it out in a form, which will determine if clubs are in A block or B block.
“Compared to last year, the fair was definitely a lot busier and more crowded,” junior Vivienne Legg. “It’s amazing to see the many new ideas people have showcased,”
This year, students must limit their club memberships to two clubs maximum to encourage more club activity and more useful meeting time. Many students will have to choose between clubs to fulfill their A and B group club requirements.
“The club fair was super fun and it was nice to see a variety of clubs,” Tang said. “I got a good feel of the school community and spirit.”
