The first semester ends this Friday causing teachers and students alike to get ready for the second half of this school year. Students are turning in their final assignments and teachers are finishing up their grading periods as well.
“I find that the grading does tend to be a period of additional time investment with the completion of grades and student comments,” physics teacher Stacey Benson said. “However, I think it is important to provide feedback on student learning progress,”
The next coming semester also means that certain students’ schedules will be changing, according to junior Thea Pratt. Students who are taking traditional arts or other electives that last for one semester will have an extra resource block instead. In the same way, those who have two resource blocks during the first semester may have a traditional art or elective block instead.
“I am excited for the new semester but it also means a change of schedule as I will be starting TOK (Theory of Knowledge),” Pratt said. “I’ve also had a lot more assignments recently as the quarter comes to a close,”
In addition, the end of the second quarter also means that the spring sports are going to be starting soon. On February 5th, badminton, fencing, swimming, track and field, and all the other spring sports are going to start practicing and participating in games, according to sacredsf.
“I’m looking forward to the end of the semester,” freshman Sofia Lum said. “I’m planning to participate in track and field, which I’m really excited for,”
Although some teachers are holding finals for the semester grades, Convent High School generally does not have official finals or a finals week, according to Benson. For teachers who are having big tests before quarter three, those tests will likely not be a big percentage of the final grade, as typical finals are.
“We have not had final assessments for the semester,” Benson said, “Our students have been completing lots of labs and assessments throughout the semester that contribute to their year-end grades.”
