For today’s spirit day for Homecoming Week the theme was Fourth of July. Students were invited to be dressed in the colors of America.
Students have been seen wearing American flags, hats, and sunglasses. However many students just chose to just wear red, white and blue, according to junior Mila Kane.
“I feel like Fourth of July as a spirit day is kind of random,” Kane said. “I would prefer like a jersey day because I just bought a really cool Giants jersey, but I still really like homecoming week”
Students are allowed to be out of dress code for spirit week as long as their outfits are appropriate and are not extremely short or revealing, according to an email sent by Student Body Presidents.
Homecoming week is common in high schools in America, both public and private. Some schools have spirit days that include dodgeball games, pep rallies, and dances, according to The San Francisco Unified School District.
“I love this opportunity to express myself and show patriotism!” freshman Laila Kong said. “I like seeing everybody’s outfits,”
In the past spirit days have included themes like Adam Sandler day, Twin day and Decade day, all to celebrate the Homecoming week that culminates in the volleyball and football games according to The Broadview.
“I really appreciate the student council taking the time to come up with these spirit days,” Kane said. “It is nice to have a little break from wearing polo shirts and jeans.”
