WEB EXCLUSIVE Juniors participated in a full-day ACT and SAT test preparation day yesterday with Compass Education Group.

Compass brought in team members for three sessions, math and science strategies, english and writing strategies and a Q&A with founder and executive director Bruce Reed.

“This was our first full-day testing workshop that we have offered to juniors,” College Counseling Director Rebecca Munda said. “We decided to offer this day to help the students discover different strategies and tools to jump in to the testing process and develop a game plan.”

All students who took the PSAT on Oct. 10 got their results back Dec. 10 and juniors who chose to take the practice ACT Sept. 29 got their results back Oct. 15. Compass created a chart for comparison of SAT and ACT scores for students to decide which test they will chose to take.

“I already knew which test I was going to take,” junior Isabelle Paul said. “But now I know strategies I would not have even thought about while learning or studying for the ACT.”

All juniors were given a booklet from Compass that provides strategies applicable for both tests as well as specific strategies for the ACT or SAT. The sessions, which were lead by tutors from Compass, went through many of the important strategies offered in the book with examples.

“It is really nice that the book connects to what we talked about and learned in the sessions,” Paul said. “There were some strategies I know I need to work on that will help me out when I take the ACT and I am glad I have the book as a resource.”

Juniors will begin college counseling classes in their Theory of Knowledge period the week of Jan. 21 and will schedule college meetings with families for after Feb. break. All other college counseling dates can be found at https://www.sacredsf.org/calendar.
