Today, Convent and Stuat Hall hosted their second blood drive of the school year. The blood drive took place at the Pine Octavia campus between 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Each year, Convent and Stuart Hall partners with Vitalant, an organization that offers pop-up blood drive services at any location. Vitalent’s offers their services in over 115 locations across the country, according to senior Ellie Ault Rosa.
“I think it’s a really unique opportunity that not many schools are able to provide,” Ault Rosa. “It’s a great way for students to give back to people in need,”
Donating blood allows students to support and provide for others in need. In addition, students will earn ten service hours per donation or two service hours for those donating on their behalf according to freshmen Efrata Tewelde.
“Even though I’m not old enough to donate, I’m really glad our school is hosting this blood drive,” Tewelde said. “It’s a really good opportunity to make a difference,”
While it is encouraged for all students to donate blood, all donors need to meet certain eligibility requirements. Some of these include students having to be over 16 years old to donate, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health according to Kiera Minvielle.
“I think the process of donating blood is really fascinating, especially since it only takes ten minutes,” said Minvielle. “Even though this process is so simple, it has a major impact that can impact many people’s lives,”
Even though donating blood may seem like a strenuous process, the actual blood donation only takes about ten minutes, according to Vitalant. It is encouraged for all eligible students to donate blood, as just one blood donation can have a great impact.
“Donating blood is just one of the great service opportunities our school has to offer,” Ault Rosa said. “I love how our school creates these opportunities for us to help and be a part of our community.”
