Today, Convent High School alumnae came from their colleges to share about their college experiences in the Syufy Theatre. This discussion was held during the slot typically occupied by the high school students’ PA (performing arts) block after check-ins with each students’ individual advisory groups.
This year, the panel consisted of alumni students: Deirdre Kenny ‘24 attending George Washington University, Chelsea Li ‘22 from UC Berkeley, Livi Webb-Purkis ‘22 from New York University and Ariana Nassiri ‘20 who recently graduated from Georgetown University.
“It was cool how they were all from different grades,” said sophomore Trinity Joa. “One of them was applying to law school, and the insight that she had about going out and getting jobs, and pushing for things you don’t expect to get in for really stuck with me,”
This panel comes each year, typically in January, as a way for the high school students to ask questions for advice for college, or simply about their college experience as a whole. By bringing in actual students from Convent High School, it provides more insight as to how well the students may be prepared for life following graduation, according to senior Nathania Chao.
“I think it was very helpful to hear from them,” Chao said. “As a senior who’s about to go through the transition into college, it’s very helpful to hear the tips such as signing up for newsletters in order to maximize the college student experience,”
After introducing themselves, the alumnae answered some of the prepared questions given by the college counseling faculty Mr. Guerrero and Mr. Kingsbury. Afterwards, the students were allowed to ask their own questions. Both sides of questions led to topics including transitioning between high school and college, the application process and college life in general.
“I thought it was very informative,” Joa said. “For me, it really reassured me that it’ll all work out with all the people to lean on, and it just reminded me to use the resources around me.”
