“I was super excited to see the Christmas trees after coming back from break,” junior Winnie Chun said. “It is something very unique to the school,”
In addition to the school being filled with decorations, it only marks the beginning of the school’s holiday festivities. Popular events that have been hosted in previous years include Christmas on Broadway, where there are boutique marketplaces, gingerbread house construction, family-friendly games and a special appearance from Santa, according to Sacred SF.
“I’ve always loved December at Convent,” junior Adania Cooper said. “Every year it’s like Christmas is longer than just a day but extends to the whole month,”
As one of the most festive times of the year, the annual tradition of putting up Christmas decorations continues. Prior to global lockdown during Covid-19 outbreak, only one Christmas tree would be put up. To allow visitors to see the Christmas Tree, a second one was added at the base of the stairs, and has been there ever since, according to IB Biology teacher Daniel Raffa.
“I love the festive trees in the hallway of Flood,” Raffa said. “It brings on a sense of nostalgia when I walk into the doors of school,”
Not only do the putting up of decorations symbolize the beginning of the holiday season, but also marks the time where families come together to celebrate other holidays such as Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, according to Chun. Nonetheless, this is the time of the year where many traditions are continued.
“I think that it is wonderful to be able to go to a school that offers so many celebration opportunities,” Chun said. “It helps us get into the holiday spirit.”
