This Saturday, the athletics department hosted the Athletics Award Ceremony at St. Mary’s Cathedral. This annual award ceremony took place, with students, faculty and parents present.
The ceremony consisted of tens of different accolades awarded to individual players and coaches, along with various speeches. The ceremony involved fall, winter and spring sports, going in chronological order, according to sophomore Aoibhinn Reidy.
“In between going through seasons there were videos from coaches sharing the best moments of the teams, along with struggles the teams faced and tips for the next season,” Reidy said. “Being present and watching all of these was very inspiring and I was able to take in tips for various different sports,”
Athletics programs staff also took the time to list the All League Athletes and Honorable mentions. In addition, there were two speeches given by students who shared their injury stories from the past school year, according to sophomore Mallory Parent.
“It was inspiring to see these athletes who have overcome struggles sharing their stories,” Parent said. “The school’s medical staff’s work definitely showed as they shared their rehabilitation process and experience getting back to their sport,”
The awards concluded with a raffle, in which people won items such as Nike backpacks, gift cards, water bottles, a free kayaking experience, and more. Cheering on school athletes is a vital part of the student experience, according to Reidy.
“I think that the athletics banquet was very organized and cool to attend,” Reidy said. “Overall, the ceremony was filled with laughter and memories that were shared across the school community.”
