Over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued a coastal flood advisory, with rain floods swamping the Bay Area for Monday morning. The warning was aimed at over six counties and cities in the Bay Area, specifically Santa Rosa, Cloverdale, San Francisco, San Jose, Livermore and Napa.
“I don’t like the rain on school days, because it’s annoying when we have to walk in between campuses,” senior Scarlett Farr said. “I have to plan to bring an umbrella and wear shoes that I don’t mind getting wet,”
The warning was enacted on Sunday, with rain heavy and gusty winds between 30 to 35 miles per hour. The weather ignited storms in Mill Valley left the roads slick and an SUV crashed on the Vallejo Highway.
“On Monday, it rained on my way to school so there was a lot of traffic up Guerrero Ave,” senior Alexandra Chua said. “It also almost caused me to be late to school which was really upsetting,”
On Sunday, there was also a wind advisory, which went into effect at 10 p.m. for San Francisco Peninsula Coast, Santa Cruz Mountains, coastal North Bay, Point Reyes National Seashore and San Francisco-Marin coastal range. A flood watch was also implemented from 8.pm. to 10.p.m that night.
“I had to walk back and forth twice yesterday between classes,” Chua said. “It’s difficult to focus in class, when you’re cold and wet,
On Monday, there was also a muddy landslide closing a highway in Saratoga and a flood in Sonoma County. Meteorologists state that when the ground becomes saturated, minor flooding roads, streams, creeks and also shallow landslides can occur.
“I actually love the rain when I’m at home all day, ,” Farr said. “I can read a mystery book and drink tea or hot chocolate.”
