On Wednesday, Jan. 10 an avalanche occurred in Palisades Tahoe. A life was lost on Wednesday, a Bay Area Native. Others present during the avalanche have been injured.
“I started skiing when I was about 3-4 years old.” freshman Asha Metha said. “Having skied at Palisades so much it definitely shocks me that this happened, and I feel sad about the situation.”
Many people participate in skiing and go during the long weekends such as this upcoming three day weekend according to Metha. People are also hearing about the tragedy that occurred this week.
“It was a tragic incident,” freshman Ainsley Smith said. “I go skiing during ski season and it breaks my heart to hear of the tragedy.”
During ski season over 11.6 million people ski. According to Smith many people grow up skiing. The National Ski Areas Association mentions the best ski resorts and their safety procedures. The National Ski Area Association also endorses programs to educate the public on risks and safe ways to enjoy the slopes.
