As part of her concert at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night, musician Stevie Nicks revealed that she had a surprise guest coming on to stage at the end of the night. Many fans had speculations, but ultimately she unveiled a Barbie doll of herself paired with a tambourine.
On that same Sunday at midnight, Mattel revealed the Stevie Nicks’ doll as part of the Barbie’s tribute to musicians. Nicks was added to this collection which included other musical superstars such as Tina Turner and David Bowie.
“I thought it was so cool to see Stevie Nicks become a Barbie,” sophomore Lila Pollack said, “I love Stevie and her music and to see her collaborate with something as iconic as Barbie was such a nice surprise,”
Nicks has already had a busy schedule this year. From performing with Billy Joel in stadiums all around the country, and now with her own dedicated Barbie, according to Stevie Nicks Info.
The doll’s outfit includes a pair of Pasquale Di Fabrizio black platform boots. It also includes Nicks’ outfit from her band, Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 album ‘Rumors’.
Nicks wrote on X, that she saw her 27 year old self in the doll and explained how ‘All the memories of walking out on a big stage in that black outfit and those gorgeous boots come rushing back,’ after looking at the doll.
“I think it is such a great tribute to such a great musical legend,” senior Catherine Fox said, “I think it’s also a great way to get newer generations to appreciate her as well,”
The Stevie Nicks doll was put on sale for $55 USD with pre-orders through the roof. The average price for a regular Barbie doll is about $20 USD according to Mattel.
“I love this collaboration and this whole concept,” Pollack said, “I hope that Mattel continues the artist tribute collection and I cannot wait to see who comes next.”
