Today, all three Convent volleyball teams played their homecoming games against Urban School at the Herbert’s Center. In preparation for these games, students participated in five days of spirit themed dress. This last day of spirit week held the theme of Spirit Wear, to support fall sports such as volleyball in their homecoming games Friday and Saturday.
“The volleyball teams play today, and the football team plays Saturday night,” said sophomore Ruby Quintos. “I am definitely going to both, but I am most excited for the volleyball games tonight because all three teams are playing which gets the whole school really involved and excited,”
The Herbert’s Center was packed with students and faculty in support of the Convent volleyball teams, all wearing red in support of the homecoming game theme of ‘red out.’ The fans were cheering and chanting which changed the energy in the game according to junior and Varsity Volleyball player Siena Bianchi.
“The homecoming atmosphere changes so much energy in the game,” said Bianchi. “When we lose a point or two and start to get down on ourselves, the crowd helps bring us back up and keep the morale high. The cheers are louder, the rallies are longer, and the game is much more fun,”
The Junior Varsity team won their game against Urban School. All volleyball teams stay and cheer on their other teammates before and after their own game, according to sophomore Varsity Volleyball player Abby Quigley.
“I find these games to be a lot more stressful but I always end up enjoying them,” Quigley said. “The thing is that I am thinking about the game all day long, and especially watching the games before mine makes me nervous. But playing the games is super fun because of the whole atmosphere and fan participation, so I do enjoy these homecoming games,”
Looking around Convent & Stuart Hall today, you could see all the students displaying their school spirit by wearing the colors red and blue. School spirit wear was the theme to wrap up this year’s spirit week, and it was a great way to end it, according to Quintos.
“This was a great theme for the day of homecoming,” said Quintos. “Seeing everybody dressed in our school colors was great to see, and I’m sure that it made the volleyball players feel supported as well.”
